Quoting & Estimating Tool

Showcase App

A self-built example showing how a manufacturing business could replace manual, spreadsheet-based quoting with a simple tool that calculates consistent pricing, tracks quote status, and generates a professional PDF in a few clicks. Built to demonstrate the kind of tool I create for real clients.

The Problem

Manufacturers typically build quotes the same way: a spreadsheet with hardcoded formulas nobody fully trusts anymore, material costs looked up or estimated fresh each time, and margins added in by feel rather than calculated consistently. Reusing a past quote for a similar job usually means digging through old emails or rebuilding it from scratch. And once a quote is sent, there's rarely an easy way to track whether it was accepted, rejected, or just went quiet.

None of this is a technology problem on the surface. A spreadsheet technically works, but it doesn't scale well, it's inconsistent from person to person, and it makes it hard to answer simple questions like "which quotes are still open?" or "what did we quote this customer last time?"

What I Built

To demonstrate how a purpose-built tool solves this problem, I built a simple quoting and estimating application from the ground up, not for a specific client, but as a working example of the kind of tool I build for manufacturing and other type of businesses.

The home page lists several quotes with visible status (draft, accepted, sent, etc.)

A reusable rate library.

Materials, labor rates, and overhead costs are entered once and reused across every quote, instead of being re-estimated by hand each time.

Materials, labor, and other rates are set once and reused across quotes.

A structured quote builder.

Each quote is made up of line items pulled from that rate library: material, quantity, and cost are calculated automatically, not eyeballed.

Building a quote from the rate library.

Consistent margin calculation.

A margin percentage is applied uniformly to every quote's subtotal, so profitability doesn't quietly vary from quote to quote depending on who built it.

Status tracking.

Every quote moves through a clear lifecycle: draft, sent, accepted, rejected, expired, so it's obvious at a glance what's still open and what needs a follow-up.

Status tabs show the quotes at each point in their lifecycle.

One-click cloning.

A similar job coming in? Just clone an existing quote as a starting point, with current rates automatically applied, instead of rebuilding from scratch.

One click cloning for fast quoting.

Professional PDF export.

A polished, ready-to-send PDF is generated directly from the quote. No separate document to maintain by hand.

A ready-to-send PDF is generated for each quote.

The Result

What would normally live across a spreadsheet, a few sticky notes, and someone's memory of "what we usually charge for this" becomes one simple, consistent tool. Pricing is calculated the same way every time, past quotes are easy to find and reuse, and nothing gets lost between "sent" and "did they say yes?"

This is a small, focused example. Real client projects are tailored exactly to a business's specific pricing rules, product catalog, approval process, and style guides. The main purpose of this demo app is to show the underlying approach: take a manual, error-prone process and replace it with something simple, consistent, and built around how the work actually happens.

See it in action

This is a live, working application, not just a mockup. If you'd like to try it yourself, get in touch and I'll send you access (mention that you want to test-drive the quoting application).
